A young doctor of around 46 Tarakeswar Dt/ - Hooghly West Bengal
was feeling restless- he was feeling an urge to do something more for others. He owned a fine family- a doctor wife, academically brilliant son
and daughter, parents and other relatives :- all close to his heart. As a professional also, he was highly successful. He was running a 40 bedded nursing home, around 70 colleagues, well equipped O.T. and brisk business in the nursing home. He was a Gynecologist of repute, an active office – bearer of local district and state I.M.A .Apparently he had no reason to be psychologically upset, but he was.
He wanted to be of more use to the common people. His nursing home as
his previous governmental experience prior setting up of the nursing home,
exposed him to the suffering of the common people especially of rural people. He knew that rural people did not have enough facility for Medical
care, dint have enough health education. They also lacked safe drinking water, sanitation facilities , waste disposal facilities and proper habitation . They even lacked proper food and still sometimes, they are to pay through their noses for curative treatments. The helplessness of the doctor on the face of the huge socio-economic-medical challenge of the area really disturbed him so much that he was not being able to concentrate in his own work. Any ordinary person would have brushed the problems off as a passing thought and would have enjoyed the life around him. But this particular doctor was not an ordinary person. He rose from a nearby village to the height of woner of 40 bedded Nursing Home,Office-bearer of local district and state level IMA and he was a much exposed Gynecologist having experience in government also. He wanted to be instrumental to re move the misery of suffering rural people around him and as he was not getting any scope to do so, he was feeling frustrated.
He was well –connected, He started taking advices from many eminent of the locality as well as from his friends and relatives. He also discussed the issue in his family, ultimately the answer came. He got an idea to develop an NGO, handed-over the nursing Home to the NGO. And run it as secretary for the welfare of the deprived and disadvantaged people of the area.
It was crucial decision. The Nursing Home itself was a multi- million affair having a turnover of about 50 lakhe a year. The family would be deprived of the property as well as the income from it. The entire earning of the couple – the doctor and his wife – was from the nursing home . It was really very difficult decision to take.
However at last decision was taken. An NGO was born . That was Tarakeswar Vivekananda Pally Seva Kendra. The doctor, Dr Joydeb Kole became the founder secretary and Dr (Mrs ) Sutapa Kole , the wife , became the founder treasurer of the NGO. The nursing home was denoted to the NGO , the registration transferred and it started running as part of the NGO . A unique venture in nature , the NGO - tarakeswar Vivekananda pally seva Kendra started running . The nursing home was renamed as Tarakeswar Seva Hospital which formed part of the NGO.
